Eric Kazmierczak
Eric Kazmierczak joined the University of Arizona in November 2024 as the Deputy Chief Safety Officer in the Office of Public Safety after retiring as the Deputy Chief from the Tucson Police Department with 24 years of service.
In his role as Deputy Chief Safety Officer, Eric supports the VP and Chief Safety Officer and the Office of Public Safety in building trusted relationships with the University of Arizona community and leading efforts around student engagement, building security, emergency planning and preparation, and technology developments.
Eric started his public safety career in 1998 with the City of Tucson. Throughout his tenure, Eric worked in multiple patrol assignments and held a wide variety of positions within the Tucson Police Department.
Leading the Administrative Services Bureau, he embraced the community-oriented policing mission utilizing innovative approaches to enhance the services provided and the department's engagement with the Tucson community. In this role, Eric was responsible for the development, execution, oversight and audit of TPD’s approximately $170 million annual budget, hiring of over 100 commissioned and professional staff members annually, all department training, implementation and use of all software and technology to include over 800 body worn camera systems, the maintenance of all department records and the development and implementation of all wellness programs.
Eric holds a Bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Arizona. He is also a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, class 331, the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute for Police in 2017, and he has presented at the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference.
