U of A Chief Risk Officer Miguel Delgado Elected President-Elect of URMIA

The University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA) has announced the election of University of Arizona Chief Risk Officer Miguel O. Delgado as president-elect for 2024-2025. Delgado took office on Tuesday, October 1 at URMIA’s 2024 Annual Conference in New Orleans. 

Delgado will serve as president-elect for the next year before taking over as the association’s president in October 2025. Previous to his election as president-elect, he served a three-year term on the association’s board of directors.

The University of Arizona is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution and, Delgado, to the best of URMIA’s knowledge, is the first Hispanic/Latino individual to be elected for the presidential role.

Founded in 1969, URMIA is the premier professional association dedicated to promoting the advancement of higher education risk management principles and best practices. URMIA serves as an educational resource to an international community of 3,100 professionals at nearly 900 institutions of higher learning, and more than 140 affiliate companies and partner organizations that serve the needs of higher education risk management. URMIA is headquartered in Bloomington, Indiana. 

In addition to a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Organizational Management, Delgado has earned the professional designations of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Associate in Risk Management for Public Entities (ARM-P), and Associate in General Insurance (AINS). He serves as a trustee and chairperson on the Pima County (AZ) Self-Insurance Trust Fund Board and is on the faculty for the Western Association of College & University Business Officer's annual Business Management Institute.
