With 100°F days now upon us, it is important for Wildcats to stay safe, cool, and hydrated.

The University of Arizona Police Department is partnering with campus experts to train law enforcement officers throughout the state to safely and effectively communicate with autistic drivers during traffic stops.

In a continued effort to further the conversations surrounding safety on campus, the University of Arizona will host a first-of-its-kind safety fair. The fair will feature free safety training, vendors, live music, free food and games, among other things.

"These tests are an important tool to make sure the public can effectively stay informed about national emergencies," said Steve Patterson, interim vice president and chief safety officer. "But they can also be alarming if you don't know they are coming, so we are asking for everyone's help to make sure the campus community is aware."

Steve Patterson, interim chief safety officer, encouraged employees to check the safety website often and download the LiveSafe app to communicate directly with UAPD.

As fall semester classes begin, University of Arizona leaders shared resources available to students and employees to stay safe on campus and address their mental health-related challenges.

The addition of a mental health support team officer and the adoption of threat analysis software used at the highest levels of law enforcement were part of a busy first 10 weeks on the job for the new interim chief of the University of Arizona Police Department, Staff Council members learned at their latest meeting.

From the installation of locks on classroom doors to simulated emergency exercises, this summer has seen a flurry of activity related to emergency preparedness. Overseeing many of the efforts is the Office of Public Safety, which is led by Steve Patterson, interim chief safety officer.

As part of a comprehensive strategy to improve campus safety, the University will reset the subscriber information in the UAlert emergency notification system later this month.
