October was a busy month, filled with opportunities to connect, educate and celebrate our shared commitment to a culture of safety. This year’s Wildcat Safety Fair was all dressed up for Halloween! Students, staff and faculty (and even some Wildcat parents and alumni) learned the ins and outs of campus safety resources and how to use the SafeCats mobile app, which launched in August.

Participants walked through real-life campus scenarios set up in “haunted houses,” learning about situational awareness, chemical spill safety, how to use an AED and a fire extinguisher, steps to reduce bike theft, how and when to report concerns to Threat Assessment and Management Team, and more. At each station, they learned how to use the SafeCats app to access relevant safety tools to report concerns, request assistance or explore safety information.

Additional October highlights include members of OPS teams:

  • partnering with the Provost’s Office to present the Campus Wellness and Safety Forum (Oct. 9).
  • sharing tips for responsible alcohol use at The Happy Hour, a National College Alcohol Awareness Week resource fair presented by ASUA (Oct. 22). UAPD’s alcohol impairment goggles were a popular station.
  • launching registration for the 2026 UAPD Community Academy, for U of A faculty and staff.
  • joining local law enforcement and community organizations for National Night Out with Oro Valley Police Department (Oct. 24).
  • participating in the annual Greek or Treat (Oct. 31), a free Halloween community event organized by Order of Omega/Fraternity and Sorority Programs.

Together, these events spotlight the people and partnerships that make our campus stronger and safer. Thank you to everyone who organized, sponsored, and took part, including our Haunted House Teams (Risk Management, UAEMS, Emergency Management, Parking and Transportation, UAPD, TAMT) and Safety Fair Partners (Survivor Support, Campus Health, Office of Institutional Equity, SafeRide, ASUA and Young Health Advocates).
